Building Repair Update

22 Oct

Works continue to progress well on the building repair. The insurer's contractor, Adron Construction, has now replaced the building's roof and the upper level of the building is currently being re-clad after the damage. The building has now been fully electrically tested and replacement wiring is being undertaken. By earlier November, the public will notice the temporary wrap and scaffolding being removed, as the building becomes weather tight. In November, the structural repairs, internal repairs including plumbing, kitchen fit out and finishing will be completed, leaving final works in early December.
It is still hoped that the repaired building will be available to operate out of for the busy christmas period, reducing the overall risk to beach users, with the full level of service available and shorter response times. This timeline assumes timely KDC approval of the Building Consent, currently pending accessibility and parking issues that were affected by the recent changes in the "Mangawhai Heads Reserve Concept Plan", in addition to existing site constraints. KDC staff and MHVLS continue to work collaboratively on this complex project to resolve such issues.
If the timeline is achieved, MHVLS will be able to demobilise from the lower carpark as quickly as possible, selling off temporary facilities and re-opening the lower car park in collaboration with KDC. Please contact the club if you are interested in the temporary portacoms or one of the 40ft containers.
In addition, the club continues to negotiate its site lease with KDC, amid growing concerns over future development plans at Mangawhai Heads Reserve. Key issues, including access and parking remain unresolved, and MHVLS looks forward to discussing these issues with the newly elected councilors.
