About MHVLS
The Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service Incorporated (MHVLS) was established in 1963 where volunteers patrolled from a tin shed with one borrowed reel from Waipu Cove SLSC. The Clubhouse was built in 1969. In 2012, it underwent renovations to add value to the complex and provide modern facilities for its members.
MHVLS was one of the first clubs to introduce the inshore rescue boat in 1975. Since then the IRB has become an essential piece of rescue equipment and MHVLS prides itself on having experienced drivers who regularly respond to rescues, and more often than not after-hour callouts to distressed vessels.
Today, the club has an active lifeguard base of over 60 lifeguards who volunteer weekends and public holidays during the SLS season. A successful Junior Surf programme has a very healthy membership of 185 children.
MHVLS Board
The Board is responsible for the overall governance, strategic direction, and smooth running of the club.
