Club and Slip Repair | Media Release #5

19 May

19 May 2025

Works on the slip repair behind the Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service (MHVLS) clubhouse continued on track over the last few months. Although poor weather occurred over the Easter period, the site held up well and the Earth Stability Limited (ESL) crew have caught up by working Saturdays and Sundays recently.

All the rock bolts have now been installed and works will shortly begin on the slip repair "meshing". This involves a green vegetation matting product being rolled out down the slip face followed by galvanised and polymer coated wire mesh, held tight to the slip face by stainless steel cables and the previously installed rock bolts. The vegetation matting heaps provide a sheltered medium for native vegetation to germinate and grow, and the wire mesh provides the slip face with strength and support between each rock bolt.

To undertake this next step in the works, helicopter lifts will be carried out from the beach grassed car park area over the next few weeks. Please keep well clear as directed by the contractors at the time.

Following on, and as part of the ecological requirements of the repair, weed control has started over the Pa site, with planting of areas due later in the year.
The slip repair is still likely to be complete in July, as per the original programme, with the clubhouse repair works to be underway afterwards.
